Trad Climbing

Traditional climbing (trad), using leader-placed gear remains at the core of the club’s activities. We maintain a very full Meets List in which the majority of the meets are centred around trad climbing venues throughout the North West, elsewhere in the UK and also abroad.

As befits a long-established club, LC&CC remains very strongly biased towards trad climbing, with a good 80% of the organised meets being centred around trad climbing venues. We organize regular one- and two-day meets at weekends throughout the year with barely a weekend passing without a meet being scheduled.  Most frequently the meets are in The Peak District, The Yorkshire Dales, where single pitch outcrop climbing predominates, and North Wales and the Lakes where multi-pitch mountain routes are the target. Gogarth meets are a fixture, where serious multi-pitch sea cliffs provide a challenge for experienced members. On extended weekends, Bank Holidays etc., we go further afield. In recent years we have had well-supported meets at the Gower, Pembroke, the Isle of Skye and Cornwall & Devon. The Isle of Lundy, Morocco and the Lofoten Islands in Norway are also likely to figure in our Meets List.

Whether you’re an experienced climber looking to enlarge your circle of friends and climbing partners or a beginner hoping to extend your experience and knowledge, the LC&CC can help in every way. Probably for most UK climbers, experienced or not, ambitions will be centred on trad climbing, and LC&CC, with its large number of experienced climbers, can help in the achievement of these goals.
