One of, if not the best, gritstone outcrops in the Peak District. The Roaches has it all. Trad climbing, bouldering, delicate slab climbing, finger mincing crack climbing, brutish overhangs.
There are mega classics abundant with Pedestal Route HVD, Valkyrie HVS, Saul’s Crack HVS, Elegy E2, Chalkstorm E3. The most infamous route of the crag has to be The Sloth HVS, the outrageous but technically easy overhang; many of our members are capable, could this be your time?
Then there’s Hen Cloud with 3 classic rock ticks on offer. Steep soaring cracks, perfect for testing your jamming skills.
Further round the corner is the surprisingly esoteric Ramshaw with it’s slopey offwidths. A true connoisseur’s crag.
With climbing at all grades and all on a backdrop of stunning views, which you can take in either while belaying after an epic climb or during a gentle stroll along the edge, there is something for everyone.
We’ll meet at the Roaches Tea Rooms ST13 8TY at 9:30am
