Membership costs £35 annually (1st Oct – 30th Sept). New members may join throughout the year for a pro-rata fee. You will receive a current newsletter approximately every 3 months, a Club Journal containing an assortment of articles written by club members, access to members’ names and contact details, and further information about the club, its huts, how to get on the Club e-mail, etc.
If you would like to join us on a climbing or caving meet, we offer a no obligation 3-month prospective membership, free of charge, so that you can try out the club. This provides us with your contact details, an emergency contact, your basic climbing/caving skills, and provides you with free Civil Liability insurance with The BMC.
Membership is normally granted to anyone, over 18yrs of age, who is already an active climber or caver to some degree (the club is not a training organisation). The club recognises the difficulty of acquiring an initial competence as a caver and will run a small number of meets suitable for physically fit and reasonably coordinated complete beginners. We are not competent to offer training so this is offered on the same basis as you might be taken for a walk overground; you will be shown the way but not receive instruction. A prospective member who has attended one of these may attend subsequent caving meets at the discretion of the meet coordinator.
The aspiring member will normally be expected to be able to lead in a safe and competent manner as a climber, or to move safely through a cave as a caver before Full Membership is confirmed.
Those under the age of 18yrs are welcome on meets if accompanied by a parent accepting responsibility for them.
